Oh that niche of mine

Dear Blog,

If I had to bake my passion as it pertains to designing digital products, it would go something like: "I want to design intuitive yet simple products for intelligent and driven millennials in major industries that currently use archaic solutions.”

I see the impact of this backwards, final swing thinking every time I turn on the news, and this idea that reinventing the wheel is something to avoid has caused major industries like finance, retail, and transportation to shun new thinking in an effort to conserve the crippling hold that they need so dearly to survive. It is this out-of-touch thinking that has brought about the rise of companies like Slack, Zero, RobinHood, Bird, and countless others to challenge what it means to be a company in today's world.

It is my opinion that society is getting younger, more intelligent, more driven, and more demanding. These traits are the antithesis of solutions put in place by gigantic industries causing younger generations to feel disrespected, left-in-the-dark, and disappointed with what these companies provide. I want to be on the forefront of the fight against this.

A few companies that I truly respect for their efforts to rewrite how services can interact with peoples lives are:

https://slack.com/“Where work happens.
Why can't work be fun?

https://zerofinancial.com/ - “ Banking has never been so rewarding.
Why not let your bank make recommendations on you could be spending money better and reward you when you do?

https://robinhood.com/ - “Investing. Now for the rest of us.”
Why does the complicated stock market have to be so intimidating?

https://www.bird.co/ - “Bird, enjoy the ride”
Why do I have to pay for an uber when I’m only going 5 blocks? And why can't that travel be made more enjoyable?

The recipe here is a solidified industry + new “reinventing” ways of thinking about a problem + pinpoint branding.

These products all have incredible teams behind them, who have produced in my opinion some of the most disruptive products in the game. And the nice thing is, there are plenty of industries left to tackle (employment, entertainment, conservation, and housing to name a few).

Thanks for listening,

Love Jonathan
